 International Firefighters Day is observed on 4th May

International Firefighters' Day (IFFD) is observed on 4th  May of every year. It was instituted after a proposal was emailed out across the world on January 4, 1999, due to the deaths of five firefighters in tragic circumstances in a bushfire in Australia. May 4 used to be a traditional Firefighters' Day in many European countries because it is the day of Saint Florian, patron saint of firefighters.

Coal Miners Day is observed on 4th May every year to highlight the toughest profession and the people working in coal mines. On this day several organisations, communities raises funds and awareness for other organisations in the coal mining area and workers. India to purchase 10 Kamov-31 choppers from Russia for 3,600 crores

Defence Ministry Nirmala Sitharaman approved Indian Navy's proposal to acquire 10 Kamov-31 choppers from Russia at a cost of around Rs. 3,600 crore to strengthen its capability against aerial threats to its aircraft carriers and large warships.



Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) and IIT-Delhi inked MoU to launch Centre of Excellence for Waste to Wealth Technologies

Principal Scientific Adviser (PSA) to the Government of India and Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) have inked Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for setting up a Centre of Excellence for Waste to Wealth Technologies in India as a commemoration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on 2 October 2019.


IIT Indore pips older peers to feature in top 50 Asia University Rankings

The second generation Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Indore yet again pipped its older peers like IIT Bombay, Delhi, and Madras to be the only IIT to rank in the top 50 Times Higher Education (THE) Asia University Rankings.


 Asteroid to fly from 31,000 km in 2029, to be seen with naked eye

National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) revealed that a 340-metre-wide asteroid will "harmlessly" fly by Earth on April 13, 2029, about 31,000 kilometres above the surface. This is within the distance of some Earth-orbiting satellites and will make the asteroid visible to naked eye. The Initial orbital calculations revealed 'Apophis' had a 2.7% chance of impacting Earth but later observations ruled out that possibility.
